The A-220 MIDI Separator allows you to separate certain MIDI signals from others and assign these signals to one or both of its two MIDI outs. The A-220 features a Channel Separate function as well as a Note Separate function with Upper-Lower and Individual modes, each of which can be set for each MIDI chan nel. By combining several A-220's in your rack or integrating other Roland MIDI peripherals such as the A-880 MIDI Patch er/Mixer and A-110 MIDI Display, you can easily manage the most complex MIDI systems. The A-220 is an effective addition to any MIDI system, whether you have just a few sound sources or a large professional system. Channel Separate function Any channel message on MIDI channel 1ã16 can be specified and output through either, both or none of the A-220's two MIDI outs. For example, when two multitimbral sound sources with the same receive channel are connected to a sequencer, the A-220 allows you to instantly specify which unit will sound according to MIDI channel.

Certain MIDI channels are often set for specific instrument Parts, such as MIDI Ch. 2 for a bass Part and Ch. 10 for a drum Part. Because of this standardization of MIDI channels, users must frequently change MIDI configurations for their sound sources. For example, when a user wants to switch sounds between sound sources during a song, or layer sounds from different sources, the user needs to change the Rx channels of the sound sources, or mute the specific Part, or change the Tx channels of the sequencing data. The A-220 facilitates the handling of data for multiple sound sources so users don't have to change the various settings of Parts on sound sources.
