The DPX-1 is a 'Sample Player' with the ability to read sound disks from sampling synthesizer such as the Emu Emulator II, Ensoniq Mirage, and Sequential Prophet 2000 / 2002. This makes an enormous library of sounds available for those who do not wish to sample themselves, or for those needing additional voices. An option of 8 separate outputs will be available in February with a price set at under $200. Oberheim does not plan on releasing a model with the outputs installed. The DPX-1 HD is a hard disk storage unit for the DPX-1 sample player.

The unit is a rack mount and features additional ports so multiple DPX-1's can use the same drive. Sounds can be stored to the hard disk for recall in 4 - 6 seconds. Capacity is approximately 20 disks worth of data.
