DSS-1 - A major breakthrough in synthesizer technology, the DSS-1 not only samples sounds, it also lets you manipulate the sampled waveforms to create new sonic experiences. This 8-voice, 61-key digital sampling synthesizer takes advantage of advances in sampling technology and signal processing, providing you with the means to explore fresh musical directions. The DSS-1 makes "sampling" into a truly musical technique.
A high sampling frequency and high resolution quantization assure excellent S/N ratio and high frequency response in sampled waveforms. Large memory capacity enables longer samples, while the multi-point sampling function delivers high fidelity.
Once you've recorded a sound, you use the "wave edit mode" to perform "reverse," "link," "truncate," and "mix," operations. With these powerful tools you can bring forth new, more musical sounds almost like magic. An automatic looping function helps assure smooth results.
The basic system used to process the sampled sound comprises two sampling oscillators/voice, VCF with switchable 24dB /oct and 12dB/oct filter rolloff, and
VCA with decay keyboard tracking. To further broaden your sound synthesis palette, the DSS-1 also incorporates adjustable digital-to-analog resolution in its sampling oscillators and has sync and auto-bend functions. On top of this, keyboard initial touch data can control VCF EG and VCA EG attack decay and slope parameters.
A 1MB (megabyte) 3.5-inch floppy disk stores vast amounts of waveform and program data for dependable access. MIDI enables data communications with other equipment. Internal memory retains up to 16 waveforms at once so you can instantly change tone colors without the time consuming disk access of previous sampling keyboards. Two programmable digital delays and a programmable equalizer round out the amazing capabilities of this masterpiece of modern musical instrument technology. List $2895
The DSM-1 comes equipped with a full 1-Megaword PCM waveform memory, for perfectly sampling even the most memory-intensive sound sources. This rich sampling synthesizer module has 16 voice polyphony, 16 individual outputs, and is multitimbral a maximum of 64 sound source split points, at the maximum sampling frequency of 48 kHz, the DSM-1 is capable of recording an audio frequency spectrum even greater than that of the hearing range. All elements of the instrument's design were engineered for optimal sound quality. The DSM-1 has a maximum sampling time of 64 seconds (over a total of 4 banks), and a built-in antialiasing input filter. Up to 512 samples and waveforms can be stored to memory. Wave editing functions include operations such as Reverse, Link, Mix, Cross Phase Looping, Back & Forth Looping, View & Edit of sound data, and Pitch Adjust. The built-in synthesizer sound processing function provides 46 separate parameters, including such sound shaping tools as VCFs and VCAs.
And with the memory storage capability of up to 32 Programs and 32 Combinations, the DSM-1 is ideal for creating rich, multi-textured sounds - especially in live performance situations. The data of the DSM-1 is stored to 2-Megabyte, 3.5-inch 2HD disks, providing high capacity storage with exceptionally fast loading time. An optional SCSI interface is available through authorized KORG service centers.
