The Emax HD is fully compatible with the Emax Sound Library, the largest, most powerful library available among comparably priced samplers. With the standard 3.5" micro floppy drive, you can load the hard disk with your own samples, sounds from E-mu's library, or any of the many sounds available from third party developers.

Whether you choose the Emax HD keyboard or its twin, the Emax HD Rack,TM you get all the powerful features of the standard Emax: 19 seconds sampling time (at 28kHz), variable sampling rates, 12 bit resolution, on-board sequencer, crossfade looping, programmable stereo panning, flexible assignment scheme (up to 122 samples on the keyboard at one time), individual channel outputs and stereo outputs, extensive MIDI implementation and much more.

The Emax SE PLUS ($2995) has the same features of the Emax with SE (Synthesis Enhanced), but in addition, includes a SCSI port for connecting the Emax to external SCSI 20 megabyte hard disk storage devices. This SCSI interface will also be available for existing Emax owners at a cost of $195. Emu will be offering the Data Technologies Hyperflex SCSI drive ($1395) that features a 20 megabyte removable format disk, allowing virtually unlimited storage of samples. For larger capacity needs (such as the Emulator III), the RM45 ($1995) is a rack mount removable media SCSI storage system with 45 megabyte removable cartridges. Features of the RM45 include 1:1 interleave, 8K buffer memory, autopark and locking of the heads, and a G force rating (non- operating) of 40 GUs.

Closely resembling the original Emax in appearance, the Emax II is completely changed internally to be true 16 bit linear voice architecture and 16 voice polyphony. Features include 32 channel operation (the Emax II will playback stereo samples), 1 megabyte RAM (expandable), SCSI connector, 8 polyphonic and assignable outputs with send/return per output, SE synthesis functions of the original Emax, and full compatibility to the original Emax library. The Emax II is expandable up to 8 megabytes of RAM. The Emax II Turbo is identical but includes 4 megabytes of RAM and a 4 megabyte internal hard disk. (list $3500 to $6500)
