The Mapper is a device that utilizes MAPS (Midi Altered Program Sets). MAPS are electronic templates that redifine midi codes. The Mapper allows the user to automatically set up all of your midi equipment with a single touch, make controls (such as pitch wheel, mod wheel, after touch, etc.) multi-functional, Change any note you play into any other notes, define keyboard splits for all 16 channels, more. The Mapper can store up to 128 patches at once and can be arranged in up to 32 different sequences. "Map patches" can be done as a patch change from existing keyboards as well.
One example shown used a Yamaha KX5 to control a DX7, 2 TX FM modules, and one Prophet 600. When initiated, the Mapper loaded the DX7, 2 TX'S and the 600 with percussive synth, warm brass, great bells and analog bass. The mapper instructed the DX to enable a breath controller for EG bias. The Mapper also set: the sustain key to hold any notes only on the Great Bells patch, set volume control to modulate between great bells & perc synth, set after touch to control the volume of the warm brass, Pitch controller to effect all sounds except the analog bass and the mod wheel to modulate the perc synth & warm brass.
The lowest note on the keyboard played only the analog synth, the next octave played tuned drums on an Emu SP12, the next three octaves played the Perc synth, brass & bells. Nice unit!
