For MIDI composers
and live performers, the Alesis NanoTracker 16 Channel MIDI Recorder provides
an inexpensive solution for MIDI recording and simple sequencing. Using familiar,
easy-to-understand controls, the NanoTracker is an excellent sketchpad for quickly
capturing MIDI-based music. Recording on the NanoTracker is easy; just hook up
two MIDI cables, press "Record" and start playing. If you make a mistake,
an "Undo" function lets you start over again. Then, use the "Overdub"
function to add more tracks. When you're satisfied with your performance, you
can merge the new track with your original track and create more overdubs. And
as a 16-channel MIDI recorder, the NanoTracker lets you record and overdub parts
on all 16 MIDI channels. Each channel can be muted or deleted at any time. To
help you keep time, a Click function indicating tempo from 40-220 beats per minute
can be used with MIDI, or sent through a dedicated rear-panel jack directly into
your audio system. Your parts can be quantized to up to thirty-second note resolution
so that timing errors in performance can be easily and automatically corrected.
For more advanced MIDI applications, the NanoTracker also provides features for
sending and syncing to MIDI Clock so that other devices can be slaved to the NanoTracker's
tempo, or to store and recall sysex data. For Alesis synthesizer users, the NanoTracker
can be used along with our SoundBridge sequence/sample management software. The NanoTracker
provides a generous helping of Flash RAM onboard...512k of internal memory, buffered
by 128k of SRAM. This allows you to record up to 50 sequences using its built-in
memory alone. For storage and transfer of sequences, the NanoTracker offers an
innovative PCMCIA Flash RAM card slot, allowing you to record another 50 sequences.
Unlike floppy disks, RAM cards can store up to 8MB of MIDI data, so even the longest,
most detailed sequences or complex sysex data files can be accommodated. Also,
the NanoTracker uses Alesis' exclusive high-resolution one-millisecond timing
engine, allowing timing resolution of 500 pulses per quarter note at 120 bpm.
Live performers will love the NanoTracker's nearly instantaneous load time...no
more waiting for a disk-based system to load in the song you need.
