Yamaha SU700

The SU700 is a professional sampler-plus-sequencer-plus effects processor-plus mixing console which we think will find its way into professional and private studios, DJ setups, and clubs everywhere. The unit integrates a phrase sampler, a full-featured 42-track sequencer, a sophisticated multi effects system, and a powerful assortment of controls and features. The SU700 gives you a tremendous range of creative control-first during recording and arrangement, and then again during realtime play.

The SU700 includes three kinds of sample tracks specifically designed to build strong sequences: loop tracks that automatically lay down endless loop phrases, composed loop tracks that work like a rhythm machine, and free tracks that are great for spontaneous fill-ins. There's also an AUDIO IN track that lets you mix in realtime audio. The 12 assignable control knobs and the assignable ribbon controller let you control the sound of each track independently in real time-not only during recording, but also during performance. The SU700 includes a huge array of built-in filters and effects, and supports MIDI-synchronized LFO and delay. Built-in "scene memory" lets you store and recall up to eight mix setups at the press of a button, while "marker memory" lets you jump instantly to any of eight preset points in the sequence.

The SU700 includes an intuitive job grid makes it easy to edit your samples and sequences and to export and import your data. The four-color custom screen gives you all the information you need to maintain full control at all times. The SU700 offers ample MIDI support and can import numerous file formats. The SU700 gives you all you need to record samples, edit them into powerful sequences, and maintain full dynamic control during performance.

Main Features

Function Keys
Assign parameters to the control knobs and ribbon controller. Each key selects a general function type; in many cases you can then select a more specific function (such as a specific filter or effect) by turning the dial.

Assignable Control Knobs
Use these knobs to control effects and filters in real time. You can change assignments on-the-fly at the press of a function key.

Pads
Ten sample-playback pads, multiplied by 4 banks, gives you 40 tracks to build your sequences. Plus an AUDIO IN track that lets you add analog input in real time. Plus a MASTER track that lets you control all other tracks simultaneously.

Rear Panel
Standard configuration includes outputs, inputs, MIDI connectors, AC inlet, and power connector. The optional I/O expansion board (AIEB1) adds six assignable outputs and digital I/O. An optional SCSI board (ASIB1) enables connection to external disks and CD-ROM devices.

Job Grid
This straightforward matrix makes it easy to perform editing, saving and loading, utility operations, and more.

Sampling Control
Use these controls to start or stop sample recording and to adjust the input level.

Scenes and Markers
Memorize up to 8 scenes (parameter environments) and up to 8 points within the sequence. You can then switch scenes and jump to different points at the press of a button - even during realtime performance.

Ribbon Controller
Control the assigned parameter in real time by scratching on the ribbon. Custom, 4-color VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) gives you all the information you need for everything you need to do.
