The SY77 incorporates both AWM (sampled sounds) and 6 operator 2nd generation FM tone generators. In what Yamaha calls RCM (Realtime Convolution and Modulation) that allows the user to combine sampled sounds and waveforms plus FM to create patches.

The FM section features 45 algorhythms, 3 feedback loops, 16 waveforms, and modulation from AWM output. Maximum simultaneous notes are 16 notes AWM + 16 notes AFM. the SY77 weighs 44 lbs.
